In a recent stage of liberalyness, I’ve been cruising around conservative websites scoff at the silliness. One such website contained a book review for The World Turned Upside Down by Melanie Phillips. In a summary of the book, she states..

I think (or am hoping) she’s mixed her words around. A loss of religious belief has led the West to TRY to replace ideology and prejudice with reason and truth and SCIENCE. It is religion, specifically Fundamental Christianity in the West, that is tainting truth and reason. It has become the goal of fundamentalists and the far right to refute these ideas. ”Global Warming is a hoax! Evolution isn’t real. The earth is 6,000 years old.” The evidence for Evolution is overwhelming.
What amount of evidence does it take before the the far right will admit this. There is no amount. It took the Catholic church until the 1992 to clear Galileo of any wrong doing. That was about something as simple as the Earth moving around the sun. Evolution? Global Warming? Forget it.
Religion is something used to explain the parts of the Universe people don’t understand. There was a point in time when people believed that sneezing was exercising yourself of demons. That Earth was the center of the universe. The earth was flat. The amount of evidence it takes to convince people is seemingly absurd. Far past the point of where there should be no reasonable doubt that something like Global Warming exists, more is needed.
There is belief that a man had a conversation with a burning shrubbery, took from it rules, and placed all morals of man kind for the rest of time based on the rules from said ignited bush. But believe that your SUV that gets 12 mpg is heating up the atmosphere with Carbon emissions…

NOW, IT’S IMPORTANT THAT WE GET BACK TO GOOD OLD FASHIONED CHRISTIAN VALUES IN THIS COUNTRY, AND I THINK THE BEST WAY WE CAN DO THAT IS TO FOCUS ON THE PARTS OF THE BIBLE THAT OCCUR BEFORE CHRIST. THAT’S WHY WE’RE CHRISTIANS. BECAUSE CHRIST ISN’T IMPORTANT. WE NEED TO FOCUS ON THE PRIMITIVE, SUPERSTITIOUS, DEPLORABLE PARTS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT THAT ALLOW US TO BE AS FAR REMOVED FROM THE NAMESAKE OF OUR CHOSEN RELIGION AS POSSIBLE SO THAT WE DON’T HAVE TO DO THINGS LIKE EXPLAIN GAY PEOPLE OR ECONOMIC DISPARITY TO OUR KIDS WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY SHITTING ON THE POOR AND REDUCING WOMEN AND BLACKS TO THE LEVEL OF PROPERTY, STRIPPED OF THEIR HARD-WON RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.
WHAT WE ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT DO IS ACKNOWLEDGE THE TEACHINGS AND WISDOM OF THE NEW TESTAMENT, WHICH IS THE BOOK OUR RELIGION DRAWS ITS NAME FROM. THAT WOULD JUST BE SILLY, AND WE’D HAVE TO APOLOGIZE TO … EVERYONE, BASICALLY, FOR BEING ENORMOUS, UNREPENTANT ASSHOLES WHO PLACE PERSONAL PROFIT AND COMFORT OVER THE RIGHTS AND NEEDS OF THE MANY.
I CAN SEE A LOT OF YOU HERE TODAY ARE GOING TO START ASKING THE SAME KIND OF QUESTIONS THAT GOT JESUS IN SO MUCH TROUBLE, AND I JUST WANT TO ASK YOU: WHAT ARE YOU, SOCIALISTS? STOP ROCKING THE BOAT. IF YOU HAVE A CONSCIENCE THEN THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON. AMEN.
